Summary

In response to the remake challenge, http://blog.thingiverse.com/2009/08/26/remake-challenge-iphone-tripod-mount/, a portable media tripod mount. The adapter will fit many different handheld devices, and is reconfigurable to have either the single or double support block on top and bottom.

Smallest clamping size: 1.75in
Largest Clamping size: 3in.
Ideal fit: iphone

The two clamping arms fit into each other to prevent lateral movement. The female attachment has a press fit for a 1/4-20 nut, acting as the tripod mount. To eliminate the lateral movement between the female and either clamp arm there is a modeled \"peg\" and complementing features; however, there is probably a better solution.

Adding a low durometer material to the clamp fingers would make a nice grip without damaging the phone surface.

Instructions

Hardware needed for assembly:

1x 10-24 thread wing nut (#98671A150 Mcmaster-Carr)
1x 10-24 thread 4in pan head bolt (#99117A510 Mcmaster-Carr)
1x 1/4-20 hex nut (#90498A029 Mcmaster-Carr)

Enjoy!

The slot for the nut is about 1mm too big all around (meaning the diameter is 2mm too big).

Otherwise, cool.

Thanks for the heads up. I made the diameter 1.5mm smaller, and updated the file.

now, all you need to do is make a joystick for it so i can play xplane on my ipod....

Yo, so good to see this on the 'verse! Nice design!

Nice job, Loving the render :P

Thanks, even though I would much rather be posting photos. I'm still on the post college budget, but I hope to own a makerbot within the next few batches.

Great design! Two questions: 1. What program are you modeling with (love the rounded edges)? 2. What rendering engine?

I used SolidWorks Office for this. Feel free to send me an email if you have any specific questions.
