I try to keep my uploaded designs as universally printable as possible, so anyone can enjoy my work, even with entry level printers. However, I recommend printers be operated by a serial interface from a live machine, could be a PC/Mac/Linux machine, and using Simplify3D for slicing your G-code. Other slicers will work, undoubtedly, but this is what I use for my design platform, it's the only way I can assure results!
I am currently using my Scalar type custom build, with an effective print area of 16x20x15"H, at a maximum resolution of 0.03mm with bilateral printing tolerances around 5%. It was a ton of work getting this machine working as well as it is, and I look forward to building more CNC machines from scratch in the near future.
