I have been illustrating for ten years (unprofessionally) as I master the American Comic book style of caricature on my own. I had a revelation that the great artists of yore(and modern too) study direct from life. But I'm poor, and its more or less hobby at this point, that I looked into modeling to have something for drawing inspiration.
I stumbled on seamless 1/6 scale dolls, and I'm enamored! Its like having a little person to draw and really master forms and shapes and shades. One that never gets tired, will take on a variety of poses (some uncomfortable) without complaint. But... I'm poor, so it can be really expensive to outfit a doll. Its like clothing a regular person! making small stuff is hard!
I turned to 3D modeling to help me generate fun things for my 1/6 scale dolls. And who knows, the wife thinks I should make a business out of it. Maybe I will...
Also, I'm a dad who loves fun. So I make and design all kinds of toys for my kiddos. They are all into science fiction, so most of my work for them has been in space ships!
